Mango Season !!!! A much awaited season for many out there!
Presenting Karnataka’s Authentic recipe called “MAVINA KHARA”. This recipe is age-old traditional dish made out of small riped mangoes flavored with Indian spices. It’s pretty simple to make and trust me it tastes heaven! Sweet tangy spicy mangoes coated with red chilly powder, salt, hing and tempered with mustard & curry leaves is soul-soothing.
A must try recipe indeed!
Ingredients:
Small Mangoes (riped) – 6
Red chilli powder – ½
Methi seeds – 4 -5
Oil – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 4 – 5
Sugar (powered) – 1 tsp
Hing – ¼
Mustard seeds – 1/3 tsp
Jeera – ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Salt – as per taste
Method of preparation:
Take small size riped mangoes & peel off their skin
If you use 6 mangoes, let 5 mangoes be as usual and squeeze 1 mango so that it’s pulp helps to coat the spices uniformly
Add 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder, salt, sugar (if mangoes are not sweet) and a dash of hing (asafoetida). Give it a gentle mix
For seasoning, heat 1 tsp of oil, add mustard, jeera and 4-6 methi seeds for the flavour…and then add turmeric powder and curry leaves
Temper mangoes with this seasoning. Give it a nice stir
Mavina khara is ready to eat. Best to eat along with steamed rice and a papad!!!
